Today I drove up a side road behind one of those trucks that’s supposed to clean the gutters in the street.

He might as well not have bothered.  Because of the parked cars along the street, the driver couldn’t get near the gutter.  So the street remains uncleaned (so not a good outcome for the residents) and the money it cost the Local Authority to have that machine in the street was waster – not a good outcome for the residents.

I can see it may appear to be more efficient to mechanise a lot of processes, but a bloke with a broom would have actually cleaned the street, and caused less pollution in the process.
